Today had to be the saddest day of the season. I watered thoroughly all the trees and shrubs. I mulched, especially the Japanese Maple that I hope will survive the winter. Then, after everything was done, we shut off the outside taps, drained the pipes, emptied a good amount out of the cistern, washed, sharpened and oiled the garden tools and put them away, opened the taps.
Another growing season has ended. Time for renewal and planning for next year.
Taking into consideration my advancing years, I wonder how many more chances I’ll have to create my dream garden and house. It would have been nice to have started this journey twenty years ago but that didn’t happen.
Well, it’s not how you start – it’s how you finish, they tell me.
