  • Late Summer

It is now almost September and my garden is showing signs of the upcoming autumn.  The sunflowers that were so beautiful for so long are drying up.  I’ve already removed all of the primary heads leaving only the secondary heads.  I’m leaving those seeds for the birds.

I’ve had an incredible tomato crop and have made 12 litres of chili sauce and another 5 litres of marinara sauce.  I still have many more tomatoes to pick and can.  I’ve also done 10 half-litres of garlic dill pickles.   I’ve also finished making peach chutney for a condiment for curry.  I normally buy mango chutney but there are just not enough East Indian people around here to warrant supermarkets carrying it.  So, I have this theory that the peach is the northern cousin of the mango.  I’ll tell you, it’s hard to tell the difference between the two chutneys.

It’s sad to see the summer end but all good things must end sooner or later.
